How do I take a Remedy?
In classical homeopathy only one remedy is taken at a time. When properly indicated, one remedy will address several symptoms in the body. Remedies are usually given in pellet form or (if indicated) could be diluted in water. Two pellets constitute “a dose”. The pellets shaken out into the lid of container and dropped directly under the tongue. Please don’t touch your remedy! If dropped on the floor, this pellet should be discarded! Let pellets dissolve under the tongue; this will take between 3-5 minutes. Don’t wash them down with water. Your mouth should be naturally clean (not as a result of brushing your teeth) Avoid eating, drinking, brushing your teeth or taking medication at least 30 min before or 1 hour after taking your remedy.
WHAT SHOULD I AVOID WHEN TAKING THE REMEDY?
Homeopathic remedies should be handled very carefully both by the homeopath and patient.
Certain substances may antidote or alter the effects of a homeopathic remedy. They should be avoided and abstained from during the course of homeopathic treatment.
- Coffee – even 1 sip of coffee can dramatically affect certain remedies
- Mint – try to use mint-free tooth paste, avoid mint candies, tea, gums and cigarettes. Special mint-free homeopathic toothpaste is available
- Camphor – avoid chap sticks, Noxema and Tiger Balm
- Essential oils and especially Tea Tree should be avoided. Please check your shampoo for Tea Tree Oil content
- Strong odours – perfumes and after shave lotions should be avoided
- Raw onions, garlic, ginger and spices should not be eaten close to the time of taking the remedy. Your mouth should be free from strong odours and tastes
- Weak teas, including black teas
- If dental work is planned, please tell the homeopath
- It is best not to undergo acupuncture or polarity therapies while under homeopathic treatment
FOR HOW LONG SHOULD I TAKE THE REMEDY?
Take the remedy only for the time advised by your practitioner. The remedy will continue to work in your body for a period of time after it had been taken. Take the remedy only as indicated by a qualified Homeopathic Practitioner, especially in chronic conditions. Please don’t take any other homeopathic remedies without consulting your homeopath first. The indiscriminate use of homeopathic medicine may interfere with prescription and will complicate or prolong the time of the treatment.
DOES MY LIFESTYLE PLAY A ROLE IN THE TREATMENT?
Yes! A healthy lifestyle is very important in any program designed to improve your health. Many health problems are predominantly caused by unhealthy lifestyle and will be only helped by changing one’s lifestyle. A healthy diet, regular exercise, plenty of sleep and a balance of work and relaxation are an important foundation for your treatment.
